DATAWIN GmbH, based in Ergolding near Landshut, Germany, brings together two independent brands specializing in document scanning and OMR solutions:
InoTec SCAMAX® and DATAWIN. By leveraging the complementary strengths and expertise of both brands, DATAWIN GmbH creates added value for its customers while preserving each brand’s distinct identity and independence.

The InoTec SCAMAX® brand, based in Wölfersheim, Germany, helps organizations worldwide streamline their business processes with highly reliable document scanners and outstanding service. Its solutions enable governments, public-sector organizations, and companies across industries to scan large document volumes quickly, securely, and efficiently. They are designed for environments where tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of documents need to be processed within a short timeframe or on the same day – or where annual scan volumes reach tens of millions of documents and beyond.

The DATAWIN brand, based in Ergolding near Landshut, Germany, develops, engineers, and manufactures customized OMR scanners, optical mark readers, specialized paper-processing systems, and related components. It also provides application-optimized solutions and consulting in imaging and digital control. DATAWIN’s core expertise lies in custom engineering and contract development of tailored document and image capture solutions.

Management

Our History

DATAWIN GmbH was founded in Landshut in 1991 by Peter Schrittenlocher, Ernst Wendleder, and DATAPEC GmbH, now DATAGROUP SE.

Initially, the company focused on the distribution of document readers. But growing global demand for automated document capture — combined with the limited performance of existing systems — soon inspired DATAWIN’s founders to develop and manufacture their own solutions. Their goal: to provide customers worldwide with high-quality, user-friendly, high-performance OMR systems and first-class service.

To make this vision a reality, DATAWIN partnered with renowned OMR expert and IT pioneer Paul Bauer and his engineering firm in Ergolding. After years of successful collaboration, the two companies merged in 2005 to form DATAWIN GmbH. Further acquisitions followed, including Swiss competitor Axiome Alpha SA — a name that remains part of DATAWIN’s product portfolio today — and Frankfurt-based M&N Solutions GmbH.

In 2008, DATAWIN, already well established in Germany, achieved its international breakthrough when one of the world’s largest election service providers commissioned the development, engineering, and manufacture of a custom election scanner series. Further major projects followed, quickly establishing DATAWIN as a global niche market leader in application-specific and custom-engineered document scanners and OMR solutions.

In 2015, Johannes Boerboom joined DATAWIN’s management team and became a shareholder. Two years later, DATAWIN acquired its long-standing imaging partner and supplier BAP Image Systems, followed by German competitor InoTec in 2019.

Today, DATAWIN GmbH, with its InoTec SCAMAX® and DATAWIN brands, ranks among the leading developers and manufacturers of premium OMR and document scanning systems as well as custom-engineered imaging solutions.
